Where to Register?

I often get questions from couples about where the best places are to register.  Here is a summary of some of my favorite options in alphabetical order:

  • Bed Bath and Beyond: The ultimate one-stop shop offering items for every room in your home.
  • Bloomingdale’s: Lots of luxury bed and bath lines, and a large variety of kitchen equipment and fine china.
  • Crate & Barrel: Stylish products – from gourmet cookbooks to the book shelves you’d store them on
  • Home Depot: DIY home-improvement items, plus grills, gardening tools and other outdoor gear
  • J.C. Penney: Affordable appliances and kitchenware, bedding and linens
  • Kohl’s: Everyday essentials (table settings, towels, and more) at bargain prices.
  • Macy’s: Hundreds of brands of everything from furniture to flatware.  Registrants receive a Macy’s gift card in the amount of 5 percent of the total purchases made by guests.
  • Target: A big selection of high-design products and low prices.
  • Tiffany & Co.: Fine china, crystal and silver sets, vases and show pieces – and the signature light-blue box for every gift.
  • Williams-Sonoma: High-end appliances, cookware and hard-to-find gadgets.

I am also a huge fan of www.myregistry.com.  You can combine items from every store listed above and many more and create one easy-to-use online registry.

What to Buy your Parents!

Around this time of year, I often get questions about what to buy your bridal party as a thank you for being such an important part of your special day.  Parents are often the toughest people to shop for.  Here are some ideas for you to consider…

I love the sentiment behind these personalized parent of the bride frames.  Paired with a picture of you from when you were a kid, it’s sure to get the waterworks flowing, and it’s a great reminder of the many emotions present during the wedding weekend.

If you have a way with words, try a personalized tablet frame, where you have room to write a poem or a brief message to the recipient.  Exclusively Weddings and Things Remembered are great places to buy frames like these.

Looking for something a bit more unique?  Etsy is your friend. You can purchase this Father of the Bride Hanky at Embroidery by Linda’s Etsy shop here for $19.  Personalized hankies also make great gifts for grandparents and moms.

Did your Dad instill your love of all things Star Wars?  Consider these Star Wars Darth Vader cuff-links for $26 at Cufflinks’s store here.  What they lack in sentimentality, they make up for in fun!

For moms, you could always personalize a great clutch, like this one from Gracey Bags’s Etsy Shop for $58 and add a personalized hanky.

Red Envelope is also a great place to shop Parent gifts, especially for meaningful jewelry, but they also have great gifts for dads.

I also new of one bride who bought this personalized throw for her mom.  It was a big hit!

Whatever you decide, just use your imagination and follow your heart.  Your parents should be happy with whatever gift you choose for them.  Happy Shopping!

Groomsmen Gift Ideas!

A LONG time ago, last July in fact, I posted an entry on one awesome idea for a groomsmen gift: the IPOD shuffle.

I had a bride ask me for some other ideas, so here is my attempt at answering this impossible question.

  • A sports event or a concert for all the groomsmen (if they are all local).  I must admit I got this idea from a creative client.  It’s great because not only is it an enjoyable gift, but the groom can experience the fun as well.
  • A beer of the month club.  Yes, this one is a bit cliched (men like beer, yadda yadda yadda), but it is fun receiving things in the the mail each month that you otherwise need to go to the store for.  This can be on the pricey side, so it’s best for smaller wedding parties.
  • A digital photo frame
  • A bottle of his favorite wine, scotch, etc. or a beer basket of his favorite brews.
  • Personalized mug, flask, watch, cufflinks, pocket knife, planner, money clip, check book holders, or golf clubs.  I know that’s an eclectic mix, but that’s why there is a perfect gift for everyone!

Whatever you do, try as much as you can to personalize each gift to each groomsmen.

Bridesmaid Gift Idea

I stumbled across these adorable makeup bags from JuJuBaju on Etsy, and think they could make the best personalized bridemaid gifts.  If it were me, I would add some of my favorite products… some double-stick fashion tape (because it’s hard to find in the drugstore),

an Orange Crush LipSmacker (because it’s nostalgic and fun),

and a tarte cheek stain stick (to enhance that rosy glow).

But you could personalize the insides of the bags however you want, based on each bridesmaid.  What fun!

Mr. Darcy Proposal Mug!

What’s a sure fire way to make sure your fiancee says “Yes”?  I’m not sure, but I know it can’t hurt to propose with this Mr. Darcy-inspired love mug.   Why didn’t I think of putting the best line of Pride and Prejudice on a mug?  So brilliant!

Unfortunately, they are sold out today after Etsy feautured them this morning, BUT I’m sure if you contact the seller, she can put you on a waiting list!

Happy 2/11 from Etsy!

Today is a special day for me.  8 years ago today my husband asked me to go out in a very old-school, chivalric, and just plain romantic fashion.  I of course made fun of him because that is my way when I am uncomfortably basking in the warm and fuzzies.   5 years later he returned the favor by mercilessly mocking my response of “of course” to him popping the question.  Now, whenever he tells the story, I have to listen to him boastfully telling our friends, “She didn’t just say “yes;” she said “of course.”  Despite my complaints, this is just one of his many personality traits that reeled me in.

Anyway, today is a day where I can especially embrace my sappy side and that includes listening to Taylor Swift and browsing on Etsy.  Check out SilverMade Studio’s on Etsy for some especially sweet baubles.

Soul Mate Personalized Brass Bangle - $35

Look After My Heart Pendant - $36

Intertwine Sterling Silver Ring and Keychain - $35

Thank you to my wonderful clients – the 2010 couples who are in the last exciting stages and the 2011 ones for the fresh anticipation – for sharing their stories and letting me embrace my sappy side at least a little bit every day.
